IU Indianapolis Carol D. Nathan Staff Council Scholarship

For full-time staff employee

The IU Indianapolis Carol D. Nathan Staff Council Scholarship Award was established in honor of Carol D. Nathan, Dean of the Faculties (Retired), for her outstanding leadership at IU Indianapolis and contributions to the IU Indianapolis Staff Council. 

Dr. Carol D. Nathan helped shape the growth and development of IU Indianapolis through her roles in the campus’ central administration, by leading big projects, including a partnership with Ivy Tech and working to establish the IU Indianapolis Staff Council and Senior Academy for retired faculty. She stood for development through perseverance, which is why this scholarship will be awarded to an individual seeking personal development through education.

The IU Indianapolis Carol D. Nathan Staff Council Scholarship Award is sponsored by the IU Indianapolis Staff Council and administered by the Staff Council Rewards and Recognition Committee in collaboration with the council's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Qualifications

(Qualifications will be verified with the appropriate department on campus.)

• You must be a full-time staff employee of IU Indianapolis with at least two years of service.
• You must be pursuing your associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree at IU Indianapolis.
• You must have completed 12 credit hours at IU Indianapolis with a GPA of at least 3.0.

All application materials will be treated with confidentiality by the selection committee.

The scholarship will be in the amount of $500. *$250 each semester (fall and spring)

This year's scholarships will be presented at the Chancellor's Staff Recognition Ceremony this fall.

Application Process

In order to apply for this scholarship, you must complete the application form and write an essay (no more than 500 words) with clear examples on how you, the nominee, will exhibit what Dr. Nathan stood for by utilizing the scholarship to contribute to the:

• Values of service the campus community
• Growth and development of IU Indianapolis

You may use these eight service standards and associate behaviors for guidance:

• Ownership/Accountability: Taking accountability for the quality and success of both the output and outcomes of scholarly work.
• Knowledge/Spirit of Excellence: Going above and beyond what is required of you. 
• Courtesy: Showing politeness in one’s attitude and behavior towards others. 
• Respectfulness: Consideration and regard for someone or something.
• Engaging: Drawing favorable attention or interest by offering something new: a new perspective, bits of knowledge, inspiring, entertaining, providing help. 
• Communication: Enable individuals to understand others and to be understood themselves by using skills such as listening, speaking, observing, and empathizing.
• Initiative: Motivated and willing to get things done on your own for the betterment of others and/or the community.
• Consistency: Behaves in the same way, has the same attitudes towards people or things, or achieves the same level of success.
